I lived in Melbourne, Australia for about year. My first day in the country was New Years Eve 2010. A friend of mine planned the evenings adventures. I booked the Frasier Suites Hotel right in the middle of CBD at an incredible rate considering the dates. We had pre-drinks in the hotel then braved the busy Sydney streets and made our way the Harbour Bridge to see the fireworks. I can't even begin to explain how amazing the experience was. If you are a big NYE person, (I personally find NYE almost always over promised and under delivers) Sydney needs to be on your bucket list. The energy was palpable! People everywhere, clubs packed with beautiful, festive people. The night turned to morning, turned to day and people were still going strong!
I took many trips back and forth from Melbourne to Sydney over the next year and I'll highlight my favorite spots over the next few weeks. If you have ever flown United Airlines, they highlight a 'Three Perfect Days' vacation in each edition of their in flight magazine. I plan to list some of my favorite, hopefully lesser known spots in the area in a similar fashion. I hope you enjoy.
